WHAT IS IT

Buriti oil is extracted from the fruit of the buriti  palm tree that grows in central Brazil and the southern Amazon basin in swamps and marshes.

When ground and pressed, buriti fruit yields a beautiful golden-orange oil.

WHERE IS IT FROM

Our Buriti oil comes from the Brazilian Amazon. It is wild harvested and fairly traded with local communities.

WHY IS IT SO GOOD

Also known as “tree of life,” the buriti palm has been prized for centuries for its vitamin rich fruit and skin healing oil.

The oil is rich in palmitic, linoleic and arachidic acids, which makes it an excellent moisturiser and helps keep the skin soft and silky smooth. It is also notable for helping to boost collagen and elastin production. However Buriti oil is best recognised for having the highest known source of beta-carotene (carotenoids) in the plant kingdom. This means that Buriti oil provides powerful protection against environmental damage and has great soothing and rejuvenating properties. Also extremely rich in vitamin E (tocopherols), Buriti oil has potent antioxidant properties which help protect the lipid membranes that surround all skin cells, keeping cells healthy longer.                                                                                                

Adding to this impressive range of skin beneficial properties Buriti oil is also photo protective (it possesses a naturally occurring SPF factor) which helps skin cells to better withstand the potentially damaging UVA and UVB rays of the sun. Interestingly, the discovery of the sun-protective properties of Buriti oil was learned from the indigenous people, who sometimes finely grind the fruit and smear a paste of it onto their skin if they are going to be in direct sunlight for long periods.
